Andalusia promotes a more inclusive public education with the incorporation of 1.275 teachers for vulnerable students
The Government of Juanma Moreno will incorporate 1.275 additional teachers to improve the academic performance of students in vulnerable situations. This reinforcement will benefit 797 centers in areas of social transformation. The measure includes teachers, secondary school teachers and counselors, consolidating the largest staff for attention to diversity in the history of Andalusian education.

The Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training of Andalusia, led by Maria del Carmen Castillo, has announced the incorporation of 1.275 additional teachers into the public education system. This reinforcement is intended to improve the academic performance of students in vulnerable situations, especially in centers located in social transformation zones (ZTS). The program will be implemented in 797 Andalusian educational centers over the next two years, with an investment of 130 million euros from the European Social Fund.

Of the total number of teachers recruited, 561 will be primary school teachers, 454 secondary school teachers and 260 counsellors. This measure seeks to create the largest staff of professionals specialised in attention to diversity in the history of the Andalusian educational system, totalling more than 13.600 professionals in the current academic year, which represents a increase of 34% compared to 2018.

More teachers, more future

The selection of beneficiary centres is not only based on their geographical location or socio-economic context, but also on specific educational criteriaFor example, priority is given to schools with a sixth-grade suitability rate of less than 90% and average ratios of more than 17 students per classroom. In the case of secondary schools, those with a compulsory secondary education qualification rate of less than 90% and ratios of more than 17 are considered.

Each center, depending on its particular situation, will receive one or two additional teachers. These additional professionals will allow split classes in some classrooms, offer individualized monitoring of students, addressing causes of absenteeism and maintaining more direct contact with families, among other duties. In secondary schools, the support teachers will focus exclusively on students in primary education.

One of the most notable new features of the programme is the assignment, for the first time, of permanent and exclusive counsellors to 199 Andalusian schools. These professionals will not have to travel between centres, which will allow them to focus on supporting teachers and working directly with students who need it. In addition, 60 institutes will have a second counselor on staff, focused primarily on career guidance tasks.

Teachers committed to special education

La Councilor Castillo has underlined the Andalusian Government's commitment to special education. The budget allocated to this area in the Current rate is 589 million euros, 74% more than in 2018. This increase has allowed the incorporation of almost 1.000 more units of Specific Education and Integration Support Classrooms, as well as a 34% increase in the number of specialists, reaching 13.600 professionals.

These educational policies are bearing fruit. According to recent data, Andalusia has managed to reduce the rate of early school leaving to a historic lowThis achievement is attributed, in part, to the implementation of educational reinforcement programs and the promotion of vocational training, which have facilitated the insertion of young people into the labor market and have contributed to reducing school dropouts.

Policies focused on students and their families

Under the leadership of the president Juanma Moreno, educational policies of Andalusia have focused on providing the resources necessary for all students and their families can achieve academic success. These initiatives seek ensure equal opportunities, offering additional support in areas where it is most needed and ensuring that each student receives a quality education tailored to their needs.

The incorporation of 1.275 additional teachers and the various measures implemented reflect the Andalusia's commitment to inclusive and quality public educationThese actions aim not only to improve the academic performance of vulnerable students, but also to guarantee equitable education for all Andalusian students.
