  • Tourism generated 25.000 million euros in the Andalusian community, a quarter of the business volume that has been generated in Spain. The change is noticeable and Andalusia is establishing itself as a tourism leader.

Andalusia is a community leader and the tourism sector is the faithful reflection of that leadership. During last year 2023, 33,9 million tourists visited our community, the first time that Andalusia reaches this figure with which beat his own record and consolidates itself as the leading tourist power in Spain.

La Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR), is the showcase where this week Andalusia shows the world all its natural, monumental, historical, gastronomic and cultural potential.

Furthermore, it is showing that the tourism sector in Andalusia is now more professional than ever and has an enormous capacity for resilience and adaptation to offer tourists an experience based on excellence.

The numbers

Andalusia has broken a record in 2023 with 33,9 million tourists. This represents an increase of 9,9% compared to last year and 4,3% more than what was registered in 2019.

In addition, hotel establishments registered nearly 20 million travelers and 54,2 million overnight stays last year.

Furthermore, Andalusia has been the preferred national destination for Spaniards to stay in their hotels with 21,2% of the total. Far ahead of Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Madrid or the islands.

Tourism as a source of employment and wealth

In 2023, Andalusia has strengthened its growth path also in the field of tourism. It has even been consolidated as the first tourist power in Spain.

Thus, the increase in tourist activity last year meant an impact direct and indirect in the Andalusian production of nearly 25.000 million euros, a quarter of the wealth generated by tourism at the national level.

The average expenditure per tourist has also grown to 77,8 euros, which represents an increase of 8% compared to the previous year.

All this activity translates into job and wealth creation in our community. In such a way that a 5,5% increase in the number of jobs linked to tourism in Andalusia.

Andalusia is a world power

Andalusia is therefore a world tourism power for its landscapes, its rich natural, historical and monumental heritage, for its beaches, its climate, its gastronomy, its people and its history or its monuments.

Likewise, the sector has reached high levels of professionalization and innovation, showing an enormous capacity for resilience and adaptation to new market needs, offering a wide variety of very high experiences quality.

The change is noticeable. Today Andalusia competes among the best for quality. And that is strengthening the loyalty of those who visit us to the point that it is the first destination of National Tourism.

Go for international tourism

The objective is to continue recovering the share of international tourism. One in every three visitors that Andalusia received in 2023 have been foreigners, the total figure being 11,6 million, 20,7% more compared to 2022.

An objective to which the 'Andalusian Crush' campaign is contributing in a very decisive way. 65% of the impacts of this campaign have been achieved in Asia and America.

Andalusia, luxury host for major events

Andalusia has given ample evidence of its leadership as host of large events. Such was the case of the Solheim Cup of Golf held on the Costa del Sol, the most watched in history, or the edition of the Latin grammy held in Seville.

Positive forecasts

In short, tourism has proven to be an industry with the capacity to reinvent itself despite all the difficulties experienced in recent years.

And the forecasts for 2024 are optimistic. Andalusia could exceed 35 million tourists next year.

A growth that is the result of effort that tourism companies have made to maintain the pulse and activity in some years that have been very hard and in which the Andalusian community has been able to measure up.
