La San Diego International Comic-Con, known as Comic-Con, will hold its first European edition in Malaga from September 25 to 28, 2025. Andalusia thus becomes a world reference for pop culture and digital art, as highlighted Juanma Moreno, during the official presentation of the event in the capital of Malaga.
Moreno stressed that the arrival of the San Diego Comic-Con to Malaga represents "the consolidation of Andalusia as an indisputable cultural and tourist power", an event that will generate an economic and media impact of more than 30 million euros in 2025 and which hopes to welcome 60.000 attendees in its first European edition.
Moreno emphasized that Comic-Con is much more than an event for fans and families: "It's a hotbed of ideas, a driving force for Andalusian talent, and a showcase of creativity and innovation." He also noted that this event fits perfectly with the Andalusian Strategy for Audiovisual Creation and Digital Content, approved in 2023, which places Andalusia at the forefront of the cultural and technological sectors.

Comic-Con consolidates Andalusia
Moreno also emphasized that the event will be key to boosting the Andalusian cultural industry, as it will serve as a showcase for leading illustrators, film companies, and the thriving animation sector already operating in the region. "This event is a global showcase for Andalusia's creative talent," stated the Andalusian president.
La Malaga Comic-Con will have a permanent office in the city, reinforcing the international organization's commitment to Andalusia. Moreno emphasized that "this is not the first time we've seen them establish a presence in Malaga." authentic cultural bastions that find their second home here,” and recalled other major international events held in Andalusia, such as the Latin Grammys, the Goya Awards, the Davis Cup, and the Solheim Cup.
The Andalusian president emphasized that events like San Diego Comic-Con are a unique opportunity to position Andalusia as a leading tourist destination for millennials and Generation Z, key sectors in the new digital economy. "We want to attract new travelers, digital natives who value authentic experiences and share their experiences in real time," Moreno emphasized.
Tourism, culture and employment
In 2024, Andalusia welcomed more than 36 million visitors, generating an economic impact of €30.000 billion. Malaga alone welcomed nearly ten million tourists, figures that, according to Moreno, will be reinforced with the celebration of Comic-Con in the capital of the Costa del Sol. "70% of attendees at these types of events come from outside Andalusia, which multiplies the economic impact and international projection of our region," he stated.
Moreno concluded by highlighting that comics are considered by many to be the ninth art, and that the digital world and artificial intelligence are opening up new creative spaces: "In this new cultural universe, Málaga and Andalusia want to take a lead. The San Diego Comic-Con in Málaga is the impetus that brings us closer to that goal."
The presentation event was attended by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; the Minister of the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue, and Administrative Simplification, Antonio Sanz; the Minister of Economy, Finance, and European Funds, Carolina España; the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, Arturo Bernal; and David Glanzer, Chief Communications and Strategy Officer of Comic-Con International.
