Renewable energies boost employment in Andalusia: 25.000 jobs in six years
Andalusia is consolidating its position as a leader in renewable energies with an investment of 8.500 billion euros in six years and the creation of 25.000 jobs in the sector. Andalusia is strengthening its role in the energy transition and in attracting industrial investments, highlighting initiatives such as the Andalusian Green Hydrogen and Biogas Alliance.

Andalusia has consolidated its leadership in renewable energies with an investment of 8.500 millones de euros in the last six years, which has allowed the creation of 25.000 jobs in the sector. This was highlighted by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines, Jorge Paradela, during his speech in the Andalusian Parliament, where he underlined the key role of the community in the generation of clean energy in Europe.

Employment and opportunities

During 2024, in Andalusia they were installed 2.670 new renewable megawatts (MW), which has increased the capacity of green electricity generation by 137% from 2018, reaching the 14.500 MW at the end of last year. Paradela has pointed out that this growth has positioned the community as one of the regions with the greatest renewable production capacity on the continent.

For the second consecutive year, Andalusia has broken its own record in the implementation of renewable power, after having added 1.605 MW in 2023. This advancement has allowed 66% of the total electricity generation capacity in the community comes from renewable sources, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and strengthening its role in the energy transition.

Photovoltaics leads growth

Photovoltaic energy has been the main engine of this growth and, therefore, the creation of employment, with the installation of 2.647 additional MW in 2024. At present, 61% of the renewable power installed in Andalusia comes from this technology, driven by the launch of 50 new photovoltaic plants of more than 10 MW.

If you add the 997 MW of solar thermal power generated in 24 plants, solar energy already represents the 68% of all renewable capacity of the community. Added to this are the 3.668 MW of wind energy, which suppose the 25% of the renewable mix, 639 MW of hydroelectric power (4%) and the 307 MW of biomass and biogas (3%).

Attracting investments and public-private collaboration

Paradela has highlighted that having this renewable capacity has turned Andalusia into a pole of attraction for industrial investments, also facilitated by initiatives such as the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Alliance and Andalusian Biogas Alliance. This is what drives the creation of jobs and opportunities, as well as a commitment to a secure future for all Andalusians.

However, he has pointed out that it is essential to have more investments in power grid infrastructure to further develop this potential. He has urged the central government to address the community's demands in this area., ensuring that the growth of the Andalusian energy sector depends on having an electric transport network that meets its needs.

With this advance in renewable energies, Andalusia is consolidated as a benchmark in the energy transition in Spain and Europe, generating employment and strengthening its industrial fabric in a key sector for the future.
