In 2023, Research and development spending in the region reached 2.285,66 million euros, a historic figure that reflects an increase of 21% compared to the previous year. This growth exceeds that of Spain as a whole, where the increase was 15,8%, according to INE data published at the end of 2024. This advance positions Andalusia as one of the autonomous communities that is investing the most in technological development and innovation.

One of the most promising areas is the development of green hydrogen, where the region has launched a multitude of projects. These include the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Alliance, the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley of Moeve and the Puerta de Europa cluster promoted by Iberdrola and Fertiberia.
According to the Andalusian Government, projects linked to renewable hydrogen in the community could cover up to 33% of the national objective of the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) for 2030. This capacity places Andalusia in a strategic position to lead the transition towards a sustainable economy.
